Starting today, Boosted Locations are being rolled out across the Los Angeles area. Helium Mobile subscribers have already been contributing to, and earning rewards from, Discovery Mapping, helping identify areas where coverage is needed most.
Now, as a result of that Discovery Mapping and additional footfall data, Helium Mobile Hotspot builders in LA can support strategic network growth and earn extra rewards*. By targeting specific areas in need of coverage, the Los Angeles area builder community can help accelerate network growth and improve connectivity for residents and businesses within their communities.
Why Boosted Locations Matter
Boosting hexes in targeted locations helps individuals and businesses deploy Helium Mobile Hotspots in key areas where coverage would most benefit subscribers, leading to an expanded network coverage and improved connectivity for everyone in the city.
In the Helium Network, coverage areas are represented by hexagons ("hexes"). Hexes allow for maximized precision and proximity when mapping out the network. Boosted hexes are in locations where additional coverage is likely to add the most value for the Helium Network. You can see which specific areas have been boosted within the Helium Mobile Coverage Planner.
Where Are Locations Being Boosted?
Several newly Boosted Locations, made up of groups of multiple boosted hexes, are already located within high-traffic areas of Los Angeles. More Boosted Locations are planned to roll out in the coming weeks. Additional locations may be boosted in the future, based on Discovery Mapping and footfall data, as well as areas identified as having the biggest need for network coverage.

Using the Coverage Planner
In addition to showing Boosted Locations, the Coverage Planner also displays the estimated signal strength and potential rewards for deployment locations, taking into account factors like placement parameters (height and direction), terrain, and other physical obstructions.
The Boosted Locations indicated are based on data from Discovery Mapping and footfall data. Additional Boosted Locations likely will continue to be added as more data becomes available.
New York City deployers will also start seeing planned Boosted Locations within the Planner, so they can start planning their next deployments. Boosted Locations are anticipated to start rolling out in NYC on or around June 13.
