International Roaming on Helium Mobile Has Landed

Our most requested feature to date is here. Helium Mobile subscribers can now go global with International Roaming. We created this feature with the intention of providing our subscribers peace of mind knowing that if they travel, their phone service can travel with them. 

How it works

Rather than paying a daily fee no matter how much you use or committing to a package, Helium Mobile’s International Roaming plan maximizes subscriber flexibility, keeping costs low so you can buy as much or as little data as you need. 

1 gigabyte (GB) of data is $15; each GB of data includes 60 minutes of calling and 100 texts so you can make restaurant reservations, receive and reply to banking alerts, and text all of your friends about how jealous they should be of your fabulous vacation. 

While some people stick to the same phone routines when they’re globetrotting, others use their devices even more, perhaps as essential tools for navigating new landscapes. But for the most part, traveling internationally often results in dialed-back phone usage for the wanderlust. 

You’ll have 30 days to use your international data from time of purchase. You’ll receive notifications as your data depletes and can purchase additional GBs if you run out. 

If you’re determined not to exceed using the amount of International Roaming data you’ve purchased (ie, you really don’t want to buy more), here are some simple tips to curb your data usage.

Turn off Discovery Mapping. Areas outside of the US are not eligible to be mapped, so disable while you’re traveling and turn it back on when you’re back home. 

Close out apps running in the background. On Android, you can enable Battery Optimization which will do this for you automatically.

Stream and download over Wi-Fi. Some functions like streaming music or videos require a lot of data. Download your favorite playlists or movies over Wi-Fi so you can have them on the go.

Check for Wi-Fi wherever you go. Airports and hotels typically have free, accessible Wi-Fi that won’t use up the data you paid for. 

If you’re planning on taking an extended trip abroad and need a longer term data / phone plan, you can check out local phone plan providers in your destination or buy a SIM from a global provider.
